DESCRIPTION

JOURNEYING THROUGH THE 5RHYTHMS, blended with meditation - these classes will start online and hopefully become hybrid (in person & online) by beginning of February


The Sunday class has a different energy to Friday night as we start in meditation (either sitting or walking) and move into the dance from here and return into mediation at the end. Personally I find the experience of moving from meditation into dance and vice versa fluid and natural leading me into soft, rich, deep embodiment in my dance.

JOURNEYING THROUGH THE 5RHYTHMS – starting online and hopefully becoming hybrid (in person & online) by beginning of February


A 6 week embodiment series focussing on each of the 5Rhythms.  My invitation is to let everything you know be your ground and start afresh as if for the first time detaching from old patterns, concepts and expectations and approach each rhythm with curiosity. It will be beneficial to attend all sessions but it is not necessary.  You will be drawn to some rhythms more than others and it may be insightful to notice if tension or resistance to one or more rhythms appears…accept it…and bring it with you especially if you want to skip any of the classes.
 
SUNDAY 13 FEBRUARY - STILLNESS - Your Breath Is The Anchor, Embracing & Shaping Your Moving Centre & The Mystery That Is You
Stillness is often associated with lack of movement, standing still, a quietness or calm, but nothing in the body, mind, planet or even universe is completely still. Stillness is a constant, vibrational movement of energy that has a natural, harmonious rhythm and flow. It is our natural state of being, a quality of being that we can take into all of our choices and actions in life, requiring no effort . When we move from the rhythm of stillness there is no drain or exhaustion felt in the body. We can re-connect to the dynamic, living stillness within by being fully present and aware in our bodies, bringing focus and quality of presence to what we are doing, allowing our intuition to guide us. It is from the foundation of stillness that we tune into and express our own harmonious rhythm, through the way we think, move, speak and act in all aspects of our lives.
In the dance through giving attention to the motion of breathing, we will liberate the mind/ego into accepting each present moment, shaping, nourishing, moving and expressing our essence and vitality from our centre/core/dantian. Being in the dynamic balance between vibration, motion, rest and harmony within ourselves; present to our STILLNESS in the midst of all the activities we do and what is going on around us.
• Finding the silence in the spaciousness inside and around you, not from the absence of talk.
• Finding the solitude in being present to yourself, not from being physically alone.
• Finding the stillness in your moving centre, not from the absence of movement


There are no steps to follow and everyone is welcome as they are, YOU ARE YOUR CHOREOGRAPHY. Hope to see you on the dance floor warmest Lucy

23 January – THE MOOD IN YOUR HIPS – extending and meeting from your center with clarity and direction (staccato)
30 January – THE SPINE IS THE LIFELINE - the gateway to the intuitive mind and creativity (chaos)
6 February – EXTENDING YOUR ARM DOESN'T STOP AT THE END OF YOUR FINGERS - let go of being the mover and allow yourself to be moved (lyrical)
13 February – BREATHING IS YOUR ANCHOR – embracing the mystery that is you (stillness)

TIMING
•    9.30am optional Do'ing or warm-up doors open
•    9.45am meditation starts and doors close
•    10.00am we start the 5Rhythms cycle (wave)
•    10.45am closing meditation
•   11.00am closing circle

PRACTICALITIES

•    Pay in advance - £5 per online class or £20/6 online classes per person/family/household.  The price will increase for in person attendance


There are no steps to follow and everyone is welcome as they are, YOU ARE YOUR CHOREOGRAPHY. You will be guided by the music which follows a structure of changing rhythm and supported by my teaching and spaceholding to connect, listen to and allow your body to move freely, in its unique rhythm at its own pace. All you need is a willingness to move and bring your presence and dance as everyone contributes their unique energy and expression to the group. The weekly themes are invitations for dancers who wish to explore different perspectives of their movement and my teaching style is permissive and open so you do not have to focus on the theme to participate in a class. I curate the music live to guide and complement the theme and also support any other intentions that dancers may have.


Online gives you the freedom to join other dancers from your home, patio, garden, local park, favourite spot or wherever you feel relaxed with no travelling, low cost and wearing whatever you feel comfortable in.

WHAT ARE THE 5RHYTHMS

•    5Rhythms is an inclusive practice with many layers of depth and the beauty is that people come and dance together for many different reasons – for fun, wellbeing, connection, letting go, freeing the mind, exploring creativity, self-awareness, acceptance, personal growth or healing.
•    5Rhythms is a simple and flexible movement practice which can be experienced by anyone regardless of culture, gender, age, shape, experience, fitness and physical limitations.
•    You will be guided by the music which follows a structure of changing rhythm and supported by my teaching and spaceholding which will help you to connect, listen to and allow your body to move freely, in its unique rhythm at its own pace
•    All you need is a willingness to bring your presence and dance as everyone contributes their unique energy and expression to the group. The most important thing is to take your time, find your way into your dance, don’t push yourself and rest if and when you need to whilst remaining in the group space.
•    It takes courage to try something new or dance with a new teacher and we all began once.


WEEKLY THEMES & MUSIC
•    I create a new theme each week for dancers who wish to explore different perspectives of the 5Rhythms.  I curate the music live to guide and complement this and also support any other intentions that dancers may have.
•    I have no restrictions on the music I play as I hold a valid PRS Online Music Licence.
•    My sound output is studio quality as I DJ live through Traktor.  You will hear the music and my teaching through your audio or sound system. The quality of your sound will depend on what system you are using. Speakers are best, but you can use headphones or earpods which will give you a better audio than a laptop, ipad or phone.



GROUP COMMITMENTS TO CREATE A SAFE CONTAINER
•    Please make sure that your floor is clear with no trip hazards.  I cannot take responsibility for any injuries sustained as a result of participating in this class.
•    Everyone commits to confidentiality so that what is shared in the group stays within the group
•    Everyone commits not to record the session or post any footage on social media
•    I will ask the group to commit to this before we start

PREREQUISITES: No prerequisites required.
