Wurru-Wurru Biik- Sky Country

Wurundjeri Country

Moora Moora Community

Dance & Culture Workshop

Women's Business

Friday 24 April 3pm- Sunday 26 April 5pm

This is a residential camping weekend in the beautiful coopertive off -grid community Moora Moora at Mt Toolebewong 90 mins from Naarm (Melbourne).

Activities will be both indoor and outdoor.

Djirri Djirri Dancers & Rivka Worth will be collaborating in a rare and important event for connection, healing and commitment to the land with which we inhabit.

Your presence and participation on this gathering will be an opportunity to listen, learn and understand Wurundjeri culture and life and how you can support traditional practices of living in connection with land, animals, water, sky and people.

Set both indoors and outdoors, this weekend will explore how we can deepen our relationship with self, other and the environment through the support, wisdom and reflection of cultural indigenous practices, 5Rhythms Map and somatic eco embodiment.

Co-Facilitators Stacie NichoPiper and Mandy Nicholson from Djirri Djirri Dancers will be joining us as our custodians and Wurundjeri guides to share stories, dance and culture and lead us in Ceremony of commitment to country.

Djirri Djirri Dance Group, with members of the Wurundjeri community, formed officially in 2013, after being part of other mixed dance groups. Our young women create the dances to the songs sung in Woiwurrung and relate to our Creation Spirits, Country, our Ancestors, animals and family. Our profile picture is of our 3 yinga guyup-guyup (song bird) who sing along to every song. Djirri Djirri means Willy wagtail in Woiwurrung, a language that has been sleeping for generations. Djirri Djirri is helping us wake it up!

Mandy is a proud Wurundjeri, Dja Dja Wurrung and Ngurai Illum-Wurrung woman, an established artist, qualified Archaeologist and leader of the Djirri Djirri Dance Group.

Mandy is committed to the revival of the Woiwurrung (Wurundjeri) language, having worked at the Victorian Aboriginal Corporation for Languages for 6 years and is now a PhD candidate studying how Aboriginal people connect to Country, whilst living off Country.

The passing on of cultural knowledge to our next generation is a focus of Mandy's, as well as sharing stories to the wider community.

Stacie is a proud Wurundjeri, Djadjawurrung and Ngurai Illum-Wurrung woman, a Djirri Djirri Dancer, and the current Chairperson of the Victorian NAIDOC Committee.Stacie holds the position of First Nations Curator at TarraWarra Museum of Art in Healesville, and Curator for Museums Victoria, accountable for engaging with the Victorian First Peoples community and develops a program of exhibitions and events to tell their stories.

Stacie has a great love for community, a desire to support and witness the progress of First Peoples, and a drive in protecting and healing Country.

Rivka’s love of dance and nature create a sacred space of connection with Country, Spirit and Presence.

As a movement and dance facilitator for almost 30 years and a reputation for exquisite space holding, Rivka is well known for her dance work in nature. She grew up talking to rocks and trees at Mount, Tallarook Taungurung Country and is the founder of GROUNDED, an annual workshop held near Alice Springs. Rivka has a BA Dance, is a certified 5Rhythms teacher and is currently studying Body Mind Centering Somatic Movement Educator Certification.

This gathering is for those identifying as women.

We hope in the future we will expand to include mens work and children. At this stage though as a new event initiated by women, we are containing it for women’s business.
