If you’ve not heard of it before, 5Rhythms is a life-affirming free-expression dance practice. There are no steps to follow and there is nothing to get wrong or right - it’s all about you finding your own way of moving to the music - and it’s all done in a super supportive and non-judgemental atmosphere.
Sometimes you can’t just think yourself through problems because thinking itself is part of the problem. Try movement and dance instead and then see how you feel. It’s an invitation to let go of all that ‘stuff’ that you might be holding onto.
Here’s what Gabrielle Roth, creator of the 5Rhythms said:
“When I am dancing, it feels like my prayer. It's like an offering. I offer my head back to the dance, I offer my shoulders back to the dance, my elbows, my hands, my spine, my knees, my feet, my whole self, my bones, my blood, my experience, my suffering... I offer it all back to the dance and I say: take it, do whatever you want with me. Release me.”
And here is what a participant at our last Reigate Class said:
“So grateful to let my body move to music with no steps to learn... The 5Rhythms seems to make me feel like I’ve gone through a washing machine cycle and come out fresh!! What an enjoyable way to do exercise and re-connect to myself“
No prior experience necessary. Wear loose fitting layers and bring a water bottle. Dancing barefoot is best or if you are prone to injuries and extra support is required, then wear soft non-marking shoes.
5Rhythms is for all, young, old, female, male, able-bodied/would prefer to sit in a chair.
