Created by Gabrielle Roth, the 5Rhythms is a conscious dance practice rooted in the principle that if you put the psyche in motion it will heal itself. The 5Rhythms are Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness. These Rhythms are a movement map that, when practiced, allow us to get grounded in our bodies, express our hearts and clear our minds so that our true essence can come forth effortlessly. It is a dynamic moving meditation that nourishes mind, body and spirit!
Whether you're new to the 5Rhythms or a veteran dancer, this 5 Week Series is meant to provide you with ground up fundamentals of the 5Rhythms so that you feel fully supported in this unique movement practice.
Each week, we'll take a deep dive into each Rhythm, one by one, to uncover the richness that each Rhythm has to offer us. We will explore various components of each Rhythm with an emphasis on learning how to utilize this practice as a powerful tool for self care & exploration.
To receive the full benefits of this practice, attendance to the full series is recommended; however drop-ins are okay.
The only requirement for this class is an open mind and a willingness to move your body. You're invited to leave your shoes off at the door. 5Rhythms is a barefoot practice but dance shoes are okay if needed.
Sayrah Garrison is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and is passionate about offering body based practices; specifically, yoga, mindfulness meditation and conscious dance to promote physical and mental health wellness in the general public and for special populations in need. She is deeply committed to exploring how these profound body based practices affect positive change in all of us and hopes that her offerings provide a fun way to explore creativity, connection and personal growth.
