Beauty: Eye of the Beholder

A movement exploration of beauty standards and the development of core qualities that liberate us from the confines of unrealistic body expectations, creating space to love our bodies just as they are.

What ideas about beauty have you been given about yourself and others? The definition says beauty is a combination of qualities, such as shape, color, or form, that pleases the aesthetic senses, especially the sight. How do we lock our bodies into a form put upon us by societal norms? In this 5Rhythms Waves day workshop, we will explore the way cultural standards of beauty prevent us from full embodiment and self-love. We will move through the rhythms of Flowing, Staccato, Chaos, Lyrical and Stillness to cultivate freedom from unrealistic body expectations, developing authenticity, self-acceptance, and embodied confidence. 

Jenelle Smith has been offering 5Rhythms classes in Orange County since 2016. With 40 years of experience as a hair stylist, she has spent decades listening to people’s stories and witnessing how often they speak harshly about their own bodies. Through the moving meditation practice of 5Rhythms, Jenelle invites people to reconnect with their bodies in a more compassionate, freeing way, and has seen firsthand the healing that can unfold when movement replaces judgment.
