Everything moves in cycles and rhythms, a fundamental principle that the 5Rhythms dance has been teaching us since the 1970s, thanks to Gabrielle Roth. Flowing, in particular, is associated with the season of spring.
This fluid energy of Flow represents to me our natural state, our birthright. It brings us back to the innocence of childhood, to that pre-socialization state where we experience the world through our senses, in harmony with gravity. It's a time when we deeply root ourselves in the earth, true to our instincts, turning inward, listening attentively, and surrendering to the cyclical and infinite energy of the moment. However, over time, we often stray from this purity, our flow becoming frozen under the weight of fear, judgments, social pressure, anxiety, stress, and much more. For me, it's the pressure I impose on myself to be a 'good' mother, or a responsible and reliable professional, that freezes my flow. And you, what freezes your Flow?
In this afternoon of dance, we will explore the somatic keys to rediscover the Flow and cultivate this powerful grounding energy. We will also put into practice techniques to untangle the knots that freeze our flow, allowing us to transition from a state of rigidity to a state of Flow. All these precious keys are accessible through our bodies and our movement.
Accompanied by very inspiring and inspired music (and sometimes silence) these 5Rhythms classes and gatherings guide participants through the 5 fundamental elements of the 5Rhythms practice. The sessions offer light facilitation using simple poetic language that serves to ignite each dancer's personal freedom, embodiment and unique expression.
Who is the facilitator?
Elise-Anne dances to remember the beautiful creative-intuitive-compassionate Self that we are all born to be AND to inhabit the wild-instinctive-connected body that we all have been gifted. Dance has transformed and healed her human journey since her first meeting with Gabrielle Roth and the 5Rhythms practice in 2007. Grateful for all that she has received from this dancing life, Elise-Anne is truly passionate to create sacred and safe spaces for others to experience the 'medicine of movement.'
Elise-Anne is a contemporary dancer, a dance-researcher, a somatic educator and a movement-mindfulness facilitator. In her daily life, she is dedicated to therapeutic dance accompaniment for individuals, children, and couples. She is currently pursuing a master's degree in somatic dance/movement therapy at the Dance Department of UQAM and training in Somatic Experiencing, a psycho-corporeal therapeutic approach.
