What?
This is an online closed group running over eight sessions during the autumn for those who move with physical pain and illness. It will be a combination of 5Rhythms movement and group sharing circles, with two of the sessions including a healing sound bath, and body presence centered art.
Why?
In these extraordinary times of Covid-19 the challenges those of us with pain or illness face have often increased many times over from what we were experiencing pre-Covid. Many of us with illness or underlying conditions have had to shield either informally or formally increasing our isolation, while those who experience pain may have found their daily lives get harder.
What’s the intention of this journey?
To slow down and commit to our self-care. To connect with like bodied people and have our voices heard and understood. An opportunity to drop the ‘mask’ that many of us wear in everyday situations to make others feel comfortable in our presence.
The online series aims to provide support and connection through movement and sharing. The intention is to have a ‘closed group’ which means we will be journeying with the same people week by week.
We will explore bringing a deeper awareness to our bodies including the uncomfortable parts and by doing this we will have the opportunity to alchemise these challenges into new creative ways of being and healing.
We will also search out new ways to move our bodies without expectation or comparison of moving like 'regular' dancers.
Who is this for exactly?
Anyone who experiences physical pain and/or illness of any age over 16. It is not important how, when, why, or by what amount your pain or illness manifests. All are welcome, as are all the different parts of us that may be struggling, tired, or in pain.
There is no physical capability prerequisite. Participants who are bed bound, or need the support of a chair are welcome, as are those who are able to move freely.
Experience of 5Rhythms is helpful but not necessary.
What do I need to participate in this journey?
Firstly and foremost you need to commit yourself. Secondly you need to make an intention to attend all eight sessions. (See dates below). If you are able to attend six or seven please let us know as that may be possible as well. And of course should health reasons prevent you from attending a session during the journey that is not an issue.
This is an online journey which will be facilitated via Zoom. Participants will need a computer or tablet to join the sessions. A speaker to connect to your computer or laptop is recommended for sound quality - even the £20 models will add a lot to your experience of the sessions.
How do I join?
There is no fee for this journey as the course has been funded from the Coronavirus Community Support Fund, distributed by The National Lottery Community Fund.
Prospective participants should complete this expression of interest form and we will confirm your place as soon as possible. https://forms.gle/yHHSY97WRHsX5D4g8
Places are limited to 30 people. Once your expression of interest form is received we will get back within a couple of days to confirm if you have a place.
