"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eye." Antoine de Saint-Exupery
What do we see, when we see through the eyes of the heart? Who, or what, becomes visible? What becomes possible when we notice, meet, and move with emotional energy – our own, and one another’s – without recoil, or fixing, or judgement? In this weekend workshop, through the embodied intelligence of the 5Rhythms movement maps, we’ll invite kindness, compassion, and clarity into our field of vision; we’ll dance to wipe the smudge from our eyes; we’ll make space for discomfort and tenderness; we will welcome whatever is present. We will gather and move together, affirming and developing our capacity to relate with ourselves, with one another, and with our wider circles, with the presence of a grounded, honest, perceptive, generous, and healthy heart.
In the Heartbeat™ map, each of the 5Rhythms becomes a gateway to the essential emotions: Flowing / Fear, Staccato / Anger, Chaos / Sadness, Lyrical / Joy, and Stillness / Compassion.

Joanne teaches 5Rhythms with a deep respect for the transformational nature of this practice, for the insight that these maps can bring to our daily lives, and for the unique discovery process of each participant. Her teaching is rooted in a lifelong engagement with her own study and personal work. Since 2001, she has held a steady space for the growth and evolution of a robust dance community in Victoria BC, has supported students and colleagues with their own teaching path, and has shared her love of this practice with communities in Canada, the US, and Europe.
"Joanne is a wise witness, a weaver of magic between the worlds, and a true artist of the deep." ~ Layah Singer-Wilson, 5Rhythms teacher and organizer, Toronto
