We all have life experiences that impact how we move through our days and live in the world. These experiences might be traumatic, could manifest on our dancefloors, and be visible in how our students react in classes/workshops.
In Dealing with Trauma on the Dance Floor, we’ll learn how we can respond to what we see manifesting before us, in a skillful way. We’ll explore embodied interventions that can support us in finding competent, conscious, intuitive, and individualised ways of supporting a student’s process while maintaining healthy regulation of the nervous system. So that growth and learning is enhanced.
We’ll build a foundation of what trauma is, its aftermath, post-traumatic reactions, post-traumatic stress, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), complex PTSD, dissociation, overflooding, and the comorbidity of these.
Having built this foundation of trauma and neurobiology, we’ll explore the concepts of window of tolerance of the autonomic nervous system, limbic resonance and bonding trauma, trauma memory, trauma compensation and resource network. We’ll explore the difference between functional and dysfunctional stored traumatic memories.
Once we’ve done this mind-based work, we’ll shift to body-based exploration using the movement medicine of the 5Rhythms and Integrative Body movement Traumatherapy to integrate tools for stabilization and regulation.
