What place do you take in a group? In your community? At the family dinner table? Are you nimble? Do you work and play well with others? Are you able to move easily between a variety of roles? Or do you find yourself playing the same position over and over - even when you, or the group, or the moment might call for something different? Whether we like it or not, we are social animals: we belong to one (and likely many) communities, however temporary or long-standing these may be. In this workshop we will explore the possibilities and challenges that any group can hold. We will use our movement practice - and the support of our companions - to cultivate and embody the skills that allow us to respond, receive, and contribute as members of a group. We will practice moving with fluidity, honesty, and awareness - sometimes shifting from one role to another, sometimes holding steady in one particular place - for our own good, and for the health and enlivenment of the whole. When we recognize ourselves as part of a living, breathing, ever-changing group field, we can intentionally align with the natural intelligence available in any group. In other words, we can use the principles of our movement practice to contribute to the health and creative potential of any community we belong to. By skilfully participating within a group, we can grow both as individuals and as community members - and we may enjoy the particular gifts that reveal themselves only in the company of others.
