What is said and who you see in KIX is confidential and stays in KIX. We work together to co-create the safe, vulnerable space for this investigation. There are extra steps taken to ensure the safety and confidentiality in this online group setting.
Why do we investigate addiction in this format?
Addiction feeds off secrets, shame and isolation. KIX helps us to shed taboos, feel feelings, remember we are not alone and gain tools and perspective to unshackle us from compulsions and addictions. Big or small.
👣 Dance > We have the chance to express our feelings - or even discover them. We connect to our body - often abused by our addictions.
🎭 Sharing > to shed taboos by talking, learn of other people's experience and gain additional strength and hope.
💥 Other activities to express, discover, meet our addictions > We experience what it is like not to lie or to hide in our addictions alone. Because addiction feeds off secrets and isolation, we weaken the grip with these tools.
What are addictions, dependencies and compulsive behaviors?
Often it starts as a way to help us cope with life experiences yet over time we lose control and compulsively go towards those behaviors or substances. Addiction robs us from connection, freedom, intimacy. Sometimes we recognize this sensation subtly, in our innermost realms. Other times, addictions might run rampant in our external worlds.
What are some examples?
Drugs. Work. Social Media. Booze. Food. Sugar.
Nicotine. Sex. Netflix. Money. Love. Control. Power.
Codependency. Email. Orgasms. Adrenaline. Romance.
Preparation & Logistics for the Online Space
• Set your space in a way that feels good to you, e.g. lighting a candle or creating ambient lighting.
• If this is your first time, join 5 minutes early to work out any tech kinks.
• Cameras are requested to be on for sharing time but may be switched off, if you wish, when we dance.
• Plug your computer into a set of external speakers (if you can) to enjoy the music more fully.
• Wear comfortable clothes to dance in and keep some water close-by.
• Stay close to the WIFI (or plug in with an old school ethernet cable) for highest quality.
