Since the autumn of 2015 we've gathered every Thursday to dance Waves classes at Providence Farm Chapel. The Chapel is an intimate space with a soft old-growth timber floor, in a building that holds powerful history for us, having been a religious school created to assimilate Indigenous children into a racist colonial society. It's now nestled within a therapeutic farm community at the base of sacred Pi'paam (the proper Hul’q’umi’num name for Mount Tzouhalem.) We acknowledge our debt to the Quw'utsun people and are grateful to live and practice in this beautiful valley.
Growing steadily, welcoming newcomers and those returning to movement practice in their lives, we are in love with embodiment and the awareness always waiting on the dance floor. All are welcome, regardless of gender, ethnicity, culture, religion, sexual identity, class background, health status, size, life-stage, (dis)ability, or anything else. All dancers 15 years or older are invited. NOTE: we always make chairs available for seated dancing.
You'll come straight into the farm acreage and up the stairs of the main heritage building. Bike lock-up is available at its entrance, and parking is to the right and below the building. Bring your water bottle (healthy well-water available on site), and wear layers for the changing seasons in a 1920s building. You are welcome to wear indoor shoes to protect your feet and joints, and you're also welcome to dance in bare feet. First class with Chantell is $5. Drop-ins $16, 5-class pass for $70. No-one turned away for lack of funds.
