5x5
DESCRIPTION
In this five part series, we will explore each rhythm in depth, strengthening our embodied understanding of each while also moving freely through a complete wave. Each week we will dance a full wave, meaning we will dance every rhythm, while also focusing our awareness & attention on the “rhythm of the week” in each class. To get the full experience, students are encouraged to participate in the full five-week series, however we understand that not everyone can make that kind of commitment, so drop-ins are welcome. Each week’s material will build on the previous week’s exploration.
This series is excellent for beginners as well as long-time practitioners who are eager to re-establish their relationship to the fundamentals of their dance.
DAY 1, NOV 4
Flowing: Dive deep into the softness of your self, your nurturing nature, your earthy mama heart. Flowing teaches us about moving seamlessly, easefully, through the cycles of life; about following our intuition; about receiving. Let the deep medicine of the feminine transport you.
DAY 2, NOV 11
Staccato: Find your edge, your voice, your creative heart expression through the Rhythm of Staccato. All about taking up space in the world, Staccato teaches us about our clarity, our boundaries, and our heart felt engagement with the world around us.
DAY 3, NOV 18
Chaos: The medicine of chaos feels so appropriate right now, in these challenging, surprising, and saddening times. Let the surrender of this special Rhythm shake out your apathy, your fear, and your anger, until there is nothing left but acceptance. Chaos teaches us how to be the eye of the storm, how to release into the Powers That Be, how to give up our small mind for the Big Mind.
NO CLASS NOV 25, THANKSGIVING HOLIDAY
DAY 4, DEC 2
Lyrical: Perhaps the most mysterious Rhythm, by nature Lyrical is elusive and ephemeral. It teaches us how to shape-shift, releasing our attachment even to form as we move effortlessly from form to form. In Lyrical, we can experience the simple joy of just being.
DAY 5, DEC 9
Stillness: Despite it’s name, the Rhythm of Stillness is very much active. Not by stopping the body, but by disidentifying with the mind, do we experience Stillness. In Stillness, we expand into All That Is, letting everything but what is alive in this very moment drop away, allowing ourselves to become everything and nothing.
