Running with Wolves
Women’s 5Rhythms Heartbeat Workshop
The Red Shoes
Saturday June 20th — 10.30am–5.30pm
In this women’s Heartbeat workshop, we’ll dance with The Red Shoes — one of the pivotal stories from Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés.
This haunting and timeless tale speaks to desire, obsession, longing, seduction, aspiration, wounding, and the cost of losing connection to our deeper instinctual selves. Through the embodied map of the 5Rhythms Heartbeat practice, we’ll explore our relationships with pleasure, hunger, intensity, meaning, and joy.
What are the “red shoes” we cannot stop dancing in?
What seduces us away from ourselves?
Where do we abandon our instincts, our bodies, or our deeper knowing?
Together, we’ll explore how these patterns may emerge through our relationships with food, body image, substances, compulsions, productivity, perfectionism, materialism, intimacy, and belonging. With insight from the wolf — and the dingo — we’ll gently investigate our traps, our ache for wilderness, and our longing for wholeness.
Through movement, reflection, archetypal inquiry, and shared experience, we’ll embody the emotional landscapes of this story and create space to search for “the real thing” — what truly nourishes and enlivens us.
There will be opportunities for dancing, witnessing, storytelling, body-mind inquiry, and connection with other women in a grounded and compassionate space.
All hours with Natalie count towards 5Rhythms teacher training prerequisites.
This workshop counts as a one-day Heartbeat workshop. If you would like to count this as a full 15-hour weekend workshop, please book the accompanying weekend workshop: Articulate.
About Running with Wolves
Running with Wolves is Natalie Poole’s women’s 5Rhythms movement research and workshop series — a space for women to explore embodiment, archetypal stories, menstrual and lunar cycles, creativity, menopause, emotion, instinct, and relational life through movement.
At the heart of this work is Natalie’s evolving Running with Wolves cyclical research map — an embodied framework weaving together the 5Rhythms wave, menstrual and lunar wisdom, archetypal psychology, nervous system awareness, and women’s lived experiences. The map explores the rising and falling dance of energies through the body and psyche: menstruation and ovulation, creation and dissolution, vitality and rest, instinct and transformation. It invites women to track patterns, deepen self-understanding, and cultivate more compassionate and empowered relationships with themselves and others.
Running with Wolves workshops have been offered in Melbourne, rural and coastal Victoria, Brisbane, Hobart, Launceston, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Brussels and London.
About Natalie Poole
Natalie Poole is a certified 5Rhythms teacher (Waves & Heartbeat), Narrative Practitioner, Dance-Movement Therapist, Somatic Movement Educator, and Intimacy Coordinator. For over twenty years she has taught movement workshops, classes, and women’s embodiment spaces throughout Australia and internationally.
Her work integrates the catalytic map of the 5Rhythms with somatic inquiry, archetypal storytelling, menstruality, creativity, nervous system awareness, and embodied narrative practice. Natalie’s teaching is informed by studies with Alexandra Pope and The Red School, Rhea Dempsey’s work in birth and women’s wisdom, and the mythopoetic writings of Clarissa Pinkola Estés.
Her approach invites people into deeper relationship with their bodies, instincts, emotions, imagination, and life-force through movement, inquiry, and shared community experience.
