Running with Wolves
Women’s 5Rhythms Heartbeat Workshop
The Red Shoes
Saturday June 20th — 10.30am–5.30pm
In this women’s Heartbeat workshop, we’ll dance with The Red Shoes, one of the pivotal stories from Women Who Run with the Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estés, a story of longing, traps, and dancing with the devil.
This haunting and timeless tale speaks to desire, obsession, seduction, aspiration, wounding, and the cost of losing connection to our deeper instinctual selves. Through the embodied 5Rhythms Heartbeat map, we’ll explore our relationships with pleasure, hunger, meaning, and joy.
What are our Red Shoes?
When are we seduced away from ourselves?
What is the effect of abandoning our instincts, our bodies, or our values?
Together, we’ll explore how these patterns may emerge through our relationships with food, body image, substances, compulsions, productivity, perfectionism, materialism, intimacy, and belonging. With insight from the wolf, and dingo, we’ll gently investigate our traps, our ache for the wilderness, and our longing for wholeness.
Through movement, inquiry, reflection and shared experience, we’ll embody the emotional landscapes of this story, dance the archetypal energies, and create space to uncover the real thing: what truly nourishes and enlivens us. We’ll dance, witness, share stories, and invite connection with other women in a grounded and compassionate space. We’ll also have the opportunity to share lunch, drink tea, and eat chocolate together!
At the heart of this work is Natalie’s Running with Wolves cyclical research map - an embodied framework weaving together the 5Rhythms wave, menstrual and lunar wisdom, archetypal stories, somatic and nervous system awareness, and women’s lived experiences. The map explores the rising and falling dance of energies through the body-mind:inviting women to track patterns, deepen self-understanding, and cultivate more compassionate and empowered relationships with themselves, each other, and our environment. Different Running with Wolves workshops have been offered over 60 times, over the last eleven years in Melbourne, rural and coastal Victoria, Brisbane, Hobart, Launceston, San Francisco, Amsterdam, Brussels and London. About Natalie Poole, Facilitator Natalie Poole is a certified 5Rhythms teacher (Waves & Heartbeat), Narrative Practitioner and Dance-Movement Therapist (Clinical Supervisor, DTAA), Somatic Movement Educator (BMC), and Intimacy Coordinator for film and television. For over thirty years she has taught dance-movement workshops and classes, throughout Australia and internationally. Her work integrates the catalytic map of the 5Rhythms with archetypal storytelling, menstrual literacy, birthing wisdom, somatic inquiry and embodied narrative practice. Natalie’s Women’s teachings are informed by studies with Alexandra Pope and The Red School, Rhea Dempsey’s Birthing Wisdom, Diane Riley’s Love Works, and the mythopoetic writings of Clarissa Pinkola Estés. Her approach invites people into deeper relationship with their body-mind community through shared experience. https://www.trybooking.com/eventlist/twirlingwolf
