Winter retreat 2026: fire, ice, and darkness to light

Welcome on the dance floor to dance wave after wave, between moving and resting, nourishing our bodies and releasing into the moment. There's space to surrender and rest in a winter hibernating nest with other dancers. There's space to wake up our aliveness in the midst of winter. We'll dance from darkness to light. We'll also explore the elements of fire and ice: what's frozen or stuck in us, how can we thaw and melt. How do we ignite our own inner spark, tend it into a flame, light ourselves up from the inside. Weather permitting, there will also be opportunities to move outside in the winter, to hopefully dance with and in snow, and to play with the elements of winter in many ways, and letting that inspire our expression.

The workshop is taught in Finnish with translation into English.

Our venue is on the island of Suomenlinna in Helsinki with a World Heritage Site sea fortress. You can stay on-site at Hostel Suomenlinna or book your own accommodation. On Saturday night there is an opportunity for sauna (and a plunge into the cold sea!), to continue exploring the elements of fire and ice, and the medicine of melting.

Suomenlinna is an easy 20 minute ferry ride away from central Helsinki. And you can fly direct to Helsinki from many international airports. If you want to explore the Arctic and the North of Finland as well, you can have an adventure in winter magic before or after this retreat. This is the best time of year for skiing, for instance!

This workshop counts as 2.5 days of Waves towards the teacher training prerequisites.
