a New Year's 5Rhythms workshop with Joanne Winstanley ~ art process guided by Cathy Key
We will cast our lines of vision into the coming year. We will turn our inner eye towards the landscape of the heart. Moving with what’s present, through the mystery and discipline of our movement practice, we will cultivate space for whatever may be ready to untangle to move, in its own time, towards a resolution. Together we’ll affirm our resolve to show up with all of our senses, again and again, as the person our life is asking us to be.
We invite you to join us for this weekend of visioning, movement, and creative imagination ~ stepping into the new year with clarity, curiosity, and a listening heart.

Joanne teaches 5Rhythms with a deep respect for the transformational nature of this practice, for the insight that these maps can bring to our daily lives, and for the unique discovery process of each participant. Her teaching is rooted in a lifelong engagement with her own study and personal work. Since 2001, she has held a steady space for the growth and evolution of a robust dance community in Victoria BC, has supported students and colleagues developing their own teaching path, and has shared her love of this practice with communities, across Canada and overseas.
Cathy is a Victoria-based artist and facilitator whose work bridges movement, creativity and consciousness. With 30 years of yoga, 20 years of ecstatic dance and a long history in transformational leadership, she leads groups into experiences that use art as a gateway to deeper wisdom. PREREQUISITES: a minimum of 15 hours of Waves (5Rhythms classes) is recommended.
Over the course of the weekend, we'll spend approximately 2-3 hours in a simple art process designed to enhance and reflect our movement enquiry.
For students who are tracking their hours toward the 5Rhythms teacher training, this workshop counts as 1 day of Waves and 1.5 days of Heartbeat.
In the Heartbeat™ map, each of the 5Rhythms becomes a gateway to the essential emotions: Flowing / Fear, Staccato / Anger, Chaos / Sadness, Lyrical / Joy, and Stillness / Compassion.

Exploring the landscapes of CREATIVE adaptation, RESILIENCE, and TENDERNESS
What happens when we can't move like we used to?
When our bodies call for slowing, softening, and reimagining the way we dance?
This 4 month program is designed specifically for those navigating physical limitations, temporary or chronic, visible or invisible. Whether you're healing from a recent injury, navigating chronic pain, aging, or tending to long-held wounds, TENDER TERRAIN offers a compassionate and supportive space to move, feel, and reconnect.
Rather than pushing through pain or retreating from the dance entirely, we learn to listen more deeply to the messages of the body.
Our injuries become wise guides, asking us to move slower, with more intention, with more curiosity.
In these sessions, you are encouraged to let go of how it should look and lean into how it truly feels.
Through online Zoom sessions, facilitated playlists, and writing prompts, you’ll be gently invited to explore how your changing body can become a teacher. With each beat and breath, you’ll uncover new ways to express, adapt, and listen to the quiet wisdom within, navigating emotional landscapes through movement and mindfulness.
PROGRAM INCLUDES:
• Four recorded curated movement sets with verbal facilitation by Shauna
• Worksheets and creative inquiries to support your emotional and physical navigation in a framework to honour your pace and limitations with care and presence
*ALL DELIVERED MONTHLY TO YOUR INBOX - STARTING January 2026
• Opportunities for reflection and community through monthly Zoom sessions (includes 30 minute movement and 30 minute share) - Wednesdays: January 28 | February 25 | March 25 | April 29
TWO GROUPS:
Group A:

*7:00-8:00pm GMT January & February / 6:00-7:00pm GMT March & April
Group B

This is for all bodies navigating the tender terrain of change, this is a space to move with what is, and to discover what’s still possible. Whether you are long time dancer or new to conscious dance, this is an invitation to explore how it is to live and dance with a change in our body.
Together, we reimagine what it means to move, to participate, to belong.
Together, we learn to navigate the dance floor—and life itself—in new and compassionate ways.
Come as you are.
Move as you can.
Discover how much is still possible.
This journey invites you to honour your resilience, your story, and your body's ever-evolving truth.
